Specialty Councils

Only BCMBC members are afforded this exclusive opportunity to serve, lead and effectuate change.  Councils provide insight and feedback on industry trends, updates and activities that are used to mobilize and innovate the coalition as a whole.

General Purposes of the Specialty Council Program

  • Activate and achieve the Coalition’s mission in ways that benefit specialty providers and members in general
  • Provide a forum for information exchange on the innovations, trends and development  in the construction industry and within the specialty areas
  • Develop, identify and maintain an informational and response capability for addressing opportunities, barriers and issues related to the industry and sector.
  • Provide an appropriate focus on the major construction, building, development and economic goals and issues of South Florida
  • Provide input to influence community and industry attitudes and aptitudes regarding development
  • Access and apply research to innovate applications within the local construction sector
  • Seek meaningful ways for all Councils to relate to and interact with each other, other sector and industry professionals and potential members
  • Capitalize on the efforts of Coalition’s membership to strengthen the Coalition’s overall impact and thrust
  • Become self- sustaining through the design and implementation of initiatives that raise funds to support the Council’s activities

  • Provides access to industry leader discussions, project owners and key decision-makers the major construction, building, development and economic goals and issues of South Florida
  • Provides constructive interaction with public official members to promote engagement with public agencies and public interest organizations
  • Offers specialty providers to identify collaborative and joint venture opportunities
  • Provides opportunities to focus on the trends and issues of your specific industry segment

Access to Resources and Relationships

  • Offers access to identifying key relationships within the industry and sector and develop and implement engagement strategies
  • Provides networking opportunities with recognized industry leaders in a specific field of interest
  • Offers meaningful ways for all Councils to relate to and interact with each other

Access to Education and Professional Development

  • Establishes recognition as a highly qualified practitioner and  industry leader
  • Provides a forum for information exchange among peers on the innovations, trends and development  in the construction industry and within the specialty areas
  • Ensures an opportunity to develop and maintain an educational environment for addressing and advancing technology, technical and practical skills

Eligibility and Attendance Requirements

  • Only Apprentice, Joiner, and Corporate level members are eligible to participate on Councils
  • Members must have current Coalition membership  to remain on a Council
  • Each Council is composed of 25  to 60 members
  • Councils hold a full day of private meetings at the annual Fall and Spring Meetings
  • Council members must attend two of three consecutive meetings in order to retain their seat, or obtain an excused absence from the Council chair
  • Each Council is encouraged to raise $5,000 annually towards its sustainability

Expectations of Council Members

  • Attend and participate as speakers and panelists at Coalition Membership and Special Meetings
  • Attend and participate as speakers and panelists at Council Meetings
  • Serve as panel members for Advisory Services and Special Assignments scheduled throughout the year
  • Contribute articles and information to Coalition newsletter and  other publications
  • Participate in research and education programs.
  • Share and distribute information about the Coalition and its programs to engage and recruit new members
  • Design and host a minimum of one Council event annually.  Events may include but are not limited to:  networking sessions, seminars, trainings, panel discussions and/or press conferences

How to Join a U.S. Council

If you are an Apprentice, Joiner, or Corporate level member, complete the council engagement form at XXXX ADD LINK, indicating your top three choices for a Council appointment. Return the form to the Coalition’s Membership Center along with a text version of your current biography as detailed in the instructions[aJB1] .  A representative of the Membership Center and/or Council Chair will be in contact within 30days to discuss your appointment.

Mechanical: Fire Protection, HVAC Instrumentation and Controls,  etc.

Electrical: Lighting, Communications, Sound and Video, Wiring, etc.

Plumbing:   Pipes, Tubing, Plumbing Fixtures, etc.

Roofing: Roofing, Downspouts, Gutters, Ductwork, Coppersmithing, etc.

Maintenance and Facility Management:  Occupational Safety and Health, Risk Assessments, Security, Disabled Access, Cleaning, Waste Management, Parking Lots, Landscaping, etc.

Preconstruction: Architects, Engineers, Cost Estimating, Scheduling, Designing and Engineering.
